What does Ó Thuaidh! mean/Where does it come from?

We come from the parish of Moore which is the most northerly of the parishes west of the town of Dingle, Co. Kerry. There is an old-saying in the parish which roughly translates as, ‘Victory to the parish of the North!’ This saying or shout of encouragement has been truncated to, ‘Ó Thuaidh!’ or ‘To the North!’ and is still to be heard at various social and sporting events to motivate and encourage fellow parishioners who may be taking part. We thought that ‘Ó Thuaidh!’ would be an appropriate title for this recording as it is most often heard nowadays when a group from the parish are dancing a set, playing a lively piece of music or if a parishioner sings a song.
